I’m not one to make a homemade syrup typically but Devin has recently been very into making strawberry syrup for matcha lattes and lemonades. Her love of a homemade strawberry syrup inspired this delicious cherry syrup. It’s a great way to use up fruit that’s on its last legs or if you have a bunch of fruit to use.

Why you’ll love this recipe:

  • Comes together in just 15 minutes!
  • Packed with flavour for all your drinks.
  • Great way to reduce food waste.

Top tips for homemade cherry syrup:

  • Use up fruit on its last legs. The best part of this recipe is you can use of the fruit that is about to go bad, reducing your household food waste!
  • Simmer the fruit on medium-low. You don’t want to syrup to be at a rolling boil. Once it starts to boil reduce the heat and let simmer low and slow to extract the most flavour.
  • Let the fruit sit while the syrup cools. To extract the most flavour we like to let the syrup come to room temperature with the cherries to extract even more flavour.
  • Store in a jar in the fridge. Keep fresh and cool int he fridge and use as needed for all your drinks.

Pro tip: After straining the syrup, save the cooked cherries as a topping for chocolate cake alongside some whipped cream!
