Honey Garlic Crispy Cauliflower

Is there anything cauliflower can’t do? Seriously, we’ve had cauliflower pizza, wings, tacos – heck we’ve even seen a cauliflower icing. In this week’s edition of ‘Cauliflower Is Amazing’ we’ve got Vegan “Honey” Garlic Crispy Cauliflower Bites.

Perfectly crispy cauliflower florets tossed in the most delicious vegan “honey” garlic sauce. All bite sized for the ideal party starter or appetizer. Whip these up in about 30 minutes for a crowd-pleasing appetizer or snack.

We teamed up with one of our favourite local vegan brands, Mama Vegan. Using their delicious vegan “honey”, made entirely from apples, we created this perfectly crispy, sweet, sticky, spicy and delicious bite. Serve these at your next party and watch as all your guests enjoy. Vegans and non-vegans alike, they’ll devour these in mere seconds. Not having a party in the near future? That’s okay. Enjoy these atop a bed of fluffy rice or noodles alongside some steamed veggies. You’ve got yourself a heck of a delicious meal.

"Honey" Garlic Crispy Cauliflower

Perfect finger food for any party or get together. Or, skip the party all together and enjoy these as a main atop a bed of rice or noodles with a side of steamed vegetables. Talk about starting the new year with a bang.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cauliflower, , chopped into florets

Batter

  • 3/4 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour

Flour Dredge

  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup corn starch (or corn flour)
  • pinch salt

"Honey" Garlic Sauce

  • 3 cloves garlic, , minced
  • 1 tbsp vegan butter
  • 1/3 cup vegetable stock
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup vegan honey
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/2 tsp ginger paste
  • 1/2 lime, , juiced
  • 1/2 tbsp corn starch
  • 1 tbsp water

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 415F. for about 30 minutes
  • Mix batter ingredients in a medium bowl and set aside. Mix flour dredge ingredients in another bowl and set aside. Toss cauliflower florets in the batter then the dry dredge and place on a lined baking sheet. 
  • Bake cauliflower in preheated oven for 30 minutes, flipping half way. 
  • While the cauliflower bakes prepare the "Honey" Garlic sauce. To a small sauce pan add minced garlic and butter. Saute for 2-3 minutes. Add vegetable stock, soy sauce, vegan honey, rice vinegar, tomato paste, ginger paste, and lime juice. Mix until well incorporated. 
  • Mix the cornstarch and water in a separate bowl until there are no more clumps. Add the cornstarch "slurry" to the saucepan and mix until incorporated. Cook until heated through and slightly thickened. Take off heat and allow to rest until cauliflower is finished baking. 
  • Add baked cauliflower to a large bowl and toss with sauce until coated. Serve with a sprinkle of black and white sesame seeds and roughly chopped cilantro.
