Vegan Hot Chocolate

Creamy, chocolate-y vegan hot chocolate recipes perfect for Canadian winters.

In case you didn’t know we live in Canada, which means our winters are COLD. From sharp winds to snowstorms and everything else winter brings, sometimes you need a delicious, comforting warm beverage. Hot chocolate is the answer. Good thing for you, we’ve got TWO perfect hot chocolate recipes to keep you warm all season long.

Hot chocolate is one of those universally loved drinks. Perfect for winter and autumn, it’s the ideal drink to cuddle up on the couch with. When deciding which hot chocolate recipe to share we asked you. In a poll put out on our Instagram we asked if you’d prefer a vegan nutella hot chocolate or a spiced hot chocolate. With most of the votes going to the nutella hot chocolate, we ultimately decided we couldn’t hold back either of the recipes. Instead we wanted to give both of them to you so that you can stay warm this season.

How to make the creamiest hot drink:

  • Non-dairy milk – Water does not have a place in hot chocolate. For the creamiest vegan hot chocolate use all non-dairy milk. You can use any milk of your liking, but we love using almond milk or soy milk.
  • Cacao powder – The rich, deep flavour of cacao powder lends itself to hot chocolate very well. When emulsified into the milk, this creamy mixture is pure bliss.
  • Frother – For frothy, light hot chocolate a milk frother is what you need. There are a couple different versions you could use, but we love the stove-top version. Alternatively you could use a high speed blender for the perfect froth.

Vegan Nutella Hot Chocolate

Super decadent and endlessly creamy, this nutella hot chocolate is basically a dessert in a mug. The perfect balance of hazelnut and chocolate, we used a vegan chocolate hazelnut spread to give it the signature flavour. Topped with coconut whipped cream and drizzle of melted chocolate this showstopping drink is just what you need.
