How to Vegan, Reviews

Vegan Cookbooks You Should Own

Vegan cookbooks are one of our go-to inspiration for creating recipes and definitely when we lack creativity and just need something to make for dinner. Plus they make the most amazing coffee table books. Who doesn’t want to spend their afternoon looking at beautiful pictures of delicious food? However, cookbooks are not necessarily the cheapest books to purchase, trust us Katherine has spent a lot of money on them. That’s why we wanted to put together a list of our ten favourite vegan or vegetarian cookbooks that we think everyone should have in their kitchen, whether you’re vegan or not.

Minimalist Baker: Everyday Cooking

Amazon, $35

Hands down one of our favourite cookbooks we’ve ever owned, plus one of our favourite vegan bloggers ever. Dana, the lady behind Minimalist Baker, is a genius when it comes to recipe creation, as well as a master of food photography (as food bloggers, photography is very important when buying a cookbook). From recipes like Pizza Burgers to Kale Caesar Salad to Peanut Butter Fudge Swirl Ice Cream. It’s impossible not to be satisfied with this cookbook.

The Oh She Glows Cookbook

Amazon, $25

Angela, the girl behind Oh She Glows blog and two cookbooks, is the main reason Katherine went vegan. After hearing her story and seeing her amazing blog and recipes she decided to take the plunge and go vegan. The perfect cookbook for healthy meals that are also amazingly satisfying. You won’t feel like you are eating healthy food when you make recipes from this cookbook. From recipes like Tex Mex Casserole to Chilled Chocolate Espresso Torte with Hazelnut Crust to Overnight Oats (Katherine’s personal favourite in the book).

The First Mess Cookbook

Amazon, $30

Katherine discovered Laura’s blog just a week before she ran out to purchase her cookbook. Not only is the photography and aesthetic amazing, but the recipes are delicious. Laura uses real ingredients to create real food, and the result is mind-blowing. The flavours she makes using simple ingredients is a serious talent and you will not be disappointed if you buy this book.

The Homemade Vegan Pantry

Amazon, $22.99

A pretty unique cookbook in that it’s all about making your own pantry staples; from butter to mayo to vegetable stocks to pasta noodles to chocolate. The cookbook is every vegans holy grail, especially if you live somewhere where vegan butter or milk is not readily available. This book will change your vegan life.

My New Roots

Amazon, $29.99

Like The First Mess, Katherine ran out as soon as she discovered Sarah’s blog to buy her cookbook. Sarah’s ability to turn simple, beautiful ingredients to an even more beautiful dish is unmatched. Her recipes are life changing and her photography is just as beautiful. One of the best and most unique parts of her cookbook is that it’s divided into seasons. Recipes made perfectly for each season.

Rawsome Vegan Baking

Amazon, $9.99

Interested in a raw vegan diet? We’re not really, but still love this cookbook. Em, a fellow Canadian blogger like a lot on this list, is a beast in the kitchen, especially when it comes to raw vegan food. We were never ones for that kind of diet, however her recipes make it so easy and delicious. We especially love this cookbook because it’s all about baking, well um un-baking. You’re going to want this cookbook. Trust us.

Food 52 Vegan

Amazon, $22.99

A cookbook that Katherine got from her uncle and almost instantly fell in love with. The recipes are simple yet delicious and will definitely impress anyone that gives them a try. From recipes like Creamy Tomato Soup to Butternut Squash Mac n’ Cheese to Double Chocolate Brownies. We understand that you are probably heading right on Amazon to buy this cookbook.

Vegan Comfort Classics

Amazon, $22

Lauren from Hot For Food is a master in the kitchen, and that is probably an understatement. She creates incredible recipes every week on her YouTube channel and her cookbook is no different. She was our main inspiration for starting this blog and our YouTube channel, so we’d be remiss if she wasn’t on this list. From her crazy popular cheese sauce to deep fried avocados  to apple fritters, this book will satisfy all your cravings. This should be on anyone’s must buy list, vegan or not. Not convinced? Check out the review we did on our YouTube channel!
