If there is any request we get more than any other it’s oil free recipes. Whether we get asked to make an original recipe or get asked how to sub out the oil in one of our existing recipes. Disclaimer, we like to cook with oil. That doesn’t mean we won’t try to make you some delicious oil free recipe, it just means you probably won’t get them a lot. As our first dabble into oil free baking we went with a vegan favourite: Oil Free Baked Fries with a Jalapeno Mango Ketchup.
Is there a better snack than french fry? We don’t think so. However fries aren’t typically the healthiest. With the help of an air fryer, you can now make oil free or almost oil free fries. While we have an air fryer, we understand that not everyone does. Don’t fret, you too can make crispy fries, without any oil.
To get perfectly crispy fries in the oven and without oil there are two important tips. Firstly you need to have a silicon baking mat. You could try with parchment paper, but we haven’t had great results with it. Secondly make sure you don’t crowd the pan. Every fry should have its own space and not touch each other. This allows the hot air to get all around the potato. If you have a convection oven, you can even get away without flipping halfway.
Paired with a delicious Jalapeno Mango Ketchup, it’s the ultimate snack for those of you who are missing summer. You could also serve these fries with a ranch dip, vegan queso cheese, or a roasted garlic hummus.
Oil Free Baked Fries & Dip
Ingredients
French Fries
- 4-5 russet potatoes
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp black pepper
Jalapeno Mango Ketchup
- 3 oz tomato paste
- 3 tbsp mango puree
- 1/2 jalapeno
- 2 tbsp cilantro
- 1 tsp dijon mustard
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp all spice
- 1/4 tsp ginger paste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425F.
- Chop fries into any shape of your choice; wedges that are between 1/4″ and 1/2″ work best
- Place onto a baking tray lined with a Silicone Mat - we recommend a silpat. Make sure they do not touch so the hot air can crisp the potatoes. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Flipping and re-seasoning half way.
- While baking the fries you can make the dip. Add all the dip ingredients to a high speed blender or food processor and mix until smooth.
