Vegan Gingerbread Hot Chocolate

Get into the holiday spirit with a warm cup of Vegan Gingerbread Hot Chocolate topped with marshmallows and finished with a cinnamon stick.

Whether you enjoy the holidays or not, this cozy cup of Vegan Gingerbread Hot Chocolate hits all the right notes. It’s smooth, creamy, rich, comforting, and happens to be dairy free!

The weather may be frightful, but this recipe is delightful. All you need to do is combine the ingredients in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Whisk until smooth and just warmed through – you don’t want to bring it to a boil. Pour into your mugs (rim the mugs with chocolate and gingersnaps for an extra fun drinking experience) and enjoy!

What’s the different between cacao and cocoa powder?

While they may sound similar, they’re in fact different. We use cacao powder for nearly all of our chocolate based recipes, but honestly that’s just personal preference. You can use whichever you prefer, but do keep in mind you may get different results. But what exactly is the difference between the two?

Cacao is the purest form of chocolate you can buy. It’s less processed than cocoa and contains more fibre than cocoa powder due to how it’s processed. Cocoa on the other hand is the heated form of cacao that most people are used to buying. It’s produced in a similar way to cacao except it undergoes a higher temperature during processing. Keep an eye on ingredients when buying cocoa powder because they can often include added sugar that you may not realize.

Vegan Gingerbread Hot Chocolate FAQ:

What if I don’t have any dark chocolate on hand?

We often like to include dark chocolate in our hot chocolate recipes, but we have also made recipes without it. If you don’t have any on hand you can skip this step, or use any other chocolate you may have on hand.

Can I use any non-dairy milk for this recipe?

Yes! We like using soy or macadamia milk for this recipe, but you can use whatever you prefer. Just keep in mind that some non-dairy milks are creamier than others which can impact the silkiness of your hot chocolate.
