There truly isn’t anything more delicious than a fresh fruit salsa. We’ve made both watermelon and mango before – it was about time we used some local Ontario peaches to make a bright and delicious salsa. Perfect for dipping or topping your tacos or bowls with, whip up this quick and easy recipe in just a few minutes and you have it for a whole week of snacking and meals.
Made with just a handful of ingredients, the real star of this recipe is the peaches. We don’t generally eat peaches the rest of the year, because nothing really compares to the flavour of an in-season local Ontario peach. So if you’ve got a couple peaches hanging out in your fridge looking for a recipe – this is it. Just combine some diced peaches, red onion, jalapeño, and red pepper with cilantro, lime juice and season to taste – this winning combination is the perfect end to summer.
Why you’ll love this recipe:
- Quick and easy to whip together.
- Every bite is a burst of fresh flavour.
- Perfect for snacking or topping meals.
- Made with just 8 ingredients.
Top tips for making Peach Salsa:
- Fresh local peaches. This recipe is best when using fresh local peaches – they have the best flavour to really take this recipe up a level. If not making in fruit season, we recommend trying another fruit salsa recipe.
- Prep all the ingredients. Before combining ingredients, have each one prepped ahead of time. Taking the time to prep all your ingredients ahead of time keeps your workspace clean and quickens the prep time.
- Hand cut ingredients. Watermelon is too soft to use the food processor to chop, so doing it by hand is the best way. We also like to prep all the add-ins by hand so that we get uniform sizes.
- Make ahead of time. If prepping this for dinner or a party, we recommend combining all the ingredients at least a couple hours ahead of time. Doing so, allows the ingredients and flavours to marinade with each other resulting in a more robust flavour.
- Store properly. To get the most out of this recipe, store in an airtight container in the fridge. If store properly, you should get up to 4-5 days of use.
Ingredient Notes:
- Peaches – We highly recommend using local in-season peaches for this recipe. It offers the best flavour experience.
- Red Onion – We like red onion for this as it helps to balance the flour. However if you’re not a big fan of onion, we recommend using a food processor to get this diced up super finely so you don’t notice the texture but still get the benefit of the flavour.
- Jalapeño – We removed the seeds to make it a little less spicy, but if you like spice you can leave them in. If you don’t like spice at all, you could try subbing with green bell pepper to get texture but no jalapeño spice or flavour.
- Red Pepper – It’s super refreshing addition to the dish, you could use any coloured bell pepper but red is our favourite.
- Cilantro – If you’re one of those people who cilantro tastes like soap for, firstly, I’m sorry. Secondly, you can leave it out but you just won’t get the same delicious experience without it.
- Lime Juice – We recommend using freshly squeezed lime juice for this recipe.
